You better comply with the License Agreement by clicking "I Agree,"  or you're shit out of luck. The jest of it is, don't do anything illegal with the software, including but not limited to redistributing it for profit or stealing its content without permission from the author.

Now the setup will ask you which components you want to install.  If you're just here to kick ass and chew bubblegum, just make sure the Game box is checked.  If you do a little modding on the side, you might as well click the checkbox that says Level Editor, which is actually an enhanced Win32 version of Mapster.  For multiplayer support with the launcher DukesterX, check the next box as well.  You'll want to install the Samples if you're planning to mess around with various enhancements for the game, including the HRP (High Resolution Pack).

Click next again, and this time you'll be presented with the folder address into which EDuke32 is to be installedIf you don't know what's good for you, leave it the way it is and click next againOtherwise, specify your preferred folder and the setup will be more than happy to copy the game files there.

Installing EDuke32

  1. Copy the contents of the DN3DINST or ATOMINST directory off of your Duke Nukem 3D or Duke Nukem 3D: Atomic Edition CD to a directory of your choosing on your hard disk.
  2. Download the latest version of EDuke32 (currently a development snapshot) and extract it to the directory you created in step 1.
  3. Run EDuke32! Running eduke32.exe will allow you to play the game, and mapster32.exe lets you create custom maps.

  • Please note if you are installing any 3rd-party Music Packs along with graphics packs such as the High Resolution Pack, take note that Eduke32 loads add-on modules in alphabetical order out of the /autoload subfolder. Music packs must be loaded last, after everything else. To prevent any issues such as Eduke32 not using the proper music, please rename all Music packs to have the letter "x" or "z" as the first letter of the filename so they will be loaded last and enable the music to work properly.

For example:

Music pack is duke32_mus.zip, rename it to be xduke32_mus.zip.
