This guide is intended to help users install the officially released add-ons to Duke Nukem 3D. Unlike other mods, they are unique in the facts that they were officially endorsed by 3D Realms (making them canon) and they were (and are) for sale.

Disclaimer: This guide assumes you have legally acquired a legitimate copy (or demo) of the add-on you wish to install, from eBay, etc.

Do not ask where you can acquire these add-ons illegally.

Before proceeding, ensure you have downloaded the latest EDuke32 and installed Duke Nukem 3D by copying the DUKE3D.GRP and DUKE.RTS files to your EDuke32 directory.

Duke It Out In D.C.

a.k.a. Duke D.C., DukeDC, D.C., DC, DDC

  1. Insert your Duke It Out In D.C. CD, Kill-a-Ton Collection Disc 3, or Duke: The Apocalypse 2 CD into your CD-ROM drive. Optionally, you can copy DUKEDC.GRP (aka DC.GRP) to your EDuke32 directory if you already have it, or DUKEDCPP.SSI and DUKEDC13.SSI from the CD if you don't.
  2. Alternatively, download the Duke It Out In D.C. demo.
  3. Download the Duke D.C. Installer.
  4. Extract it to your EDuke32 directory or a subdirectory thereof using 7-Zip.
  5. Run DukeDC.bat to install the expansion.
  6. DukeDC.bat will also launch the expansion. It is compatible with the Duke It Out In D.C. HRP, compiled by NightFright.
  7. If you want to use the DCHRP's Subversion (SVN) repository, read the add-on HRP SVN tutorial.
  8. Periodically, use the SVN software's update function to ensure you have the most recent changes and updates applied to your copy of the data.

Duke Caribbean: Life's A Beach

a.k.a. Duke Vacation: Life's a Beach, Duke Caribbean Vacation, LAB, DCLAB

  1. Insert your Duke Caribbean: Life's A Beach into your CD-ROM drive. Optionally, you can copy VACATION.GRP/VACATION.PRG to your EDuke32 directory if you already have it, or VACA15.SSI, VACAPP.SSI, and VACA13.SSI from the CD if you don't.
  2. Download Duke Caribbean: Life's A Beach Plus by following the instructions in the add-on HRP SVN tutorial.
  3. Periodically, use the SVN software's update function to ensure you have the most recent changes and updates applied to your copy of the data.
  4. Run Caribbean.bat. The installation of the game will be handled for you, and you can run the game from the same batch file once completed.
  5. Vaca+ will provide fixes and improvements to all aspects of the game, including fixed programming, patched errors in the classic art and maps, Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 music (just like in 1997!), and compatibility with the new Polymer renderer, as well as high-definition art and 3D models.

Duke: Nuclear Winter

a.k.a. Nuclear Winter, NW

  1. Insert your Duke: Nuclear Winter into your CD-ROM drive and/or copy the NWINTER.GRP file to your EDuke32 directory.
  2. Alternatively, download the Duke: Nuclear Winter demo and copy its NWINTER.GRP.
  3. Download Duke: Nuclear Winter Plus by following the instructions in the add-on HRP SVN tutorial.
  4. Periodically, use the SVN software's update function to ensure you have the most recent changes and updates applied to your copy of the data.
  5. Run NWinter.bat. The installation of the game will be handled for you, and you can run the game from the same batch file once completed.
  6. NW+ will provide fixes and improvements to all aspects of the game, including fixed programming, patched errors in the classic art and maps, Roland Sound Canvas SC-55 music (just like in 1997!), and compatibility with the new Polymer renderer, as well as high-definition art and 3D models.

Duke!ZONE

  1. Insert your Duke!ZONE CD or Duke: The Apocalypse 2 CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Coming soon! (This add-on has a very complicated set-up, requiring a program or batch file I don't want to make.)

Duke!ZONE 2

  1. Insert your Duke!ZONE 2 CD, Kill-a-Ton Collection Disc 3, or Duke: The Apocalypse CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Copy DUKE!ZON.GRP from the "DZ2" directory for v1.3D or "DZ2PP" for v1.4/v1.5 to your EDuke32 directory.
  3. Alternatively, download the Duke!ZONE 2 demo.
  4. Download the fixed CON files.
  5. Extract them to a subdirectory of your EDuke32 directory.
  6. Run EDuke32 with these command line parameters: "-j<dir> -g DUKE!ZON.GRP". (replace <dir> with the subdirectory from the previous step)

Duke Xtreme

  1. Insert your Duke Xtreme CD, Kill-a-Ton Collection Disc 3, or Duke: The Apocalypse CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Copy the DKXTRM directory from the CD to your EDuke32 directory.
  3. In DKXTRM/PACK14, rename DKEXGAME.CON to GAME.CON, DKEXDEFS.CON to DN3DDEFS.CON, and DKEXUSER.CON to DN3DUSER.CON.
  4. Run EDuke32 with these command line parameters: "-jDKXTRM\PACK14 -jDKXTRM\SPMAPS -jDKXTRM\DMMAPS".
  5. For the time being, the other content from this expansion is not covered in this tutorial.
  6. If you desire, you can download some CON files that have the maps grouped into episodes until a better solution is created.

Duke Assault

  1. Insert your Duke Assault CD into your CD-ROM drive.
  2. Copy the ASSAULT directory from the CD to your EDuke32 directory.
  3. Copy the two TILES0??.ART files to the ASSAULT directory.
  4. In EDuke32, select ASSAULT for your mod directory, or run EDuke32 with the command line parameters "-jASSAULT".
  5. Select your map from the user map selection.
