Installing Eduke32 source port couldn't be easier. Simply download the latest snapshot availale at it's main website and place the contents into any folder you like, what are these contents? the following:

- Buildlic.txt
- Eduke32.exe
- GNU.txt
- Mapster32.exe
- names.h
- Tiles.cfg

"But the Zip file I downloaded doesn't have all those files! just the executables!" - In that case, you probably downloaded one of the development snapshots. Builds that came out after the official release. Development snapshots Zip files should look something SIMILAR but not exactly like this : Eduke32_snapshot_YEARMONTHDAY.ZIP (Year month day would be 20080224, for example. Try to find the most recent snapshot as possible).

There are a few things to bear in mind though:

.Make sure you have Duke3d.Grp in the same folder (Why? You can't run Eduke32 without any content to start with). It doesn't have to be strictly Duke3d.grp, it can be a standalone mod Group file or TC, as long as it has the necessary tiles.

.If possible, try to use the same files provided in one Zip file, try not to use Eduke32.exe from 2 months ago and Mapster32.exe from a recent snapshot, although sometimes this is unavoidable, it's best to have files that were released at the same time.

That's basically all you need to do to start up Eduke32 and have it up and running. Let's take a look a what happens when you firs execute Eduke32.exe, shall we?

When you first start Eduke32, you are given the following options:

.Video mode: That's where you select the resolution at which you're going to play the game. People usually select the last resolution along with the Fullscreen option enabled.
. Input devices: You select wether you want to use mouse or joystick, or both.

The first times you use Eduke32.exe it is recommended that you leave "Always show configuration at start" enabled, so you can get used to which configurations you'd like to use the most. When you're confortable with them and you feel you won't want anything differeny in the future, you can disable that option in order to start Eduke32 more rapidly.

Going into the "game" section, you can select any game you want to play. The amount of games will depend on which GRP files where found at the same folder in which Eduke32.exe was installed.

Then on "messages" you'll be able to take a look at the Eduke32.log file, which shows the commands and operations behind performed by Eduke32.exe in the background. This is a VERY useful file. Specially if you find a bug or a crash, as this is the first thing you should show to any programmer developing Eduke32. Usually most reasons for crashes or bugs can be found in this file.

Now, after making sure the configuration is the one you desire, press on "start" to start playing. If everything is correctly installed, you'll be shooting enemies in no time.

Note that executing Mapster32.exe is basically the same, without the input devices option.
You will NOT be able to see any graphics in 3D mode of mapster if the executable didn't find a GRP file!
